In a message shared on X, Baby expressed that progressive and democratic forces from the Global South are united in their support for Mamdani.

He stated, "Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on winning the New York mayoral election. Your victory, rooted in Indian heritage, is a moment of pride for us. This achievement in Trump's America signifies a shift towards policies that prioritize the welfare of the people."

Baby further emphasized, "As we, the progressive and democratic forces from the Global South, raise our voices against the imperialist military-industrial-media complex, we stand with you and the constituents you represent. May we find common ground and unite against those who aim to silence the people's voices."

A Resounding Message Against Authoritarianism

Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas from CPI(M) highlighted that Mamdani's win serves as a significant challenge to authoritarian regimes that misuse electoral mandates to justify their actions.

He congratulated New Yorkers for resisting immense pressure, including from Trump, stating, "Zohran Mamdani's historic victory carries deep implications on various levels. It stands as a strong rebuke to authoritarian regimes that falsely claim electoral legitimacy. This win reinforces the idea that governance should center around the people."

Brittas added, "This victory is a testament to grassroots mobilization and the demand for policies that prioritize the welfare of the populace."

A Defeat for Trump and Netanyahu

Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretary of CPI(ML) Liberation, characterized Mamdani's election as a significant defeat for both President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He stated, "Zohran Mamdani's election as NYC Mayor represents a major setback for Trump and Netanyahu. It is a victory for all advocates of democracy, workers' rights, the freedom of Palestine, and the dignity of immigrants, as well as equal rights for Muslims globally!"

A Message of Hope and Unity

The Communist Party of India (CPI) remarked that the 34-year-old democratic socialist's victory sends a powerful message of hope, justice, and unity.

"Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on his inspiring victory against the forces of hatred and division. His election as Mayor of New York symbolizes hope, justice, and unity. We stand in solidarity with his commitment to peace, equality, and the Palestinian cause," the CPI stated.

Mamdani triumphed over independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in a closely watched election. As the son of filmmaker Mira Nair and Columbia University professor Mahmood Mamdani, he will make history as the first Muslim, first Indian-origin, first Africa-born, and the youngest mayor of New York in over a century when he takes office on January 1.
