In a heartfelt message shared on X, the Prime Minister stated, “Ahmed, you are an Australian hero. You risked your life to save others by confronting danger at Bondi Beach and disarming a terrorist. Ahmed al Ahmed, a fruit shop owner from Sydney, is currently recovering in the hospital after undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds to his arm and hand. His family reported that he bravely wrestled a firearm from one of the alleged attackers during the mass shooting.

By confronting the gunman and successfully disarming him, Ahmed is credited with averting further casualties.
