Strengthening India-Oman Ties


Muscat: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in comprehensive discussions with Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik of Oman in Muscat, focusing on enhancing the strategic partnership between their nations.


The leaders celebrated the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which they described as a significant milestone in their bilateral relations, expressing optimism that it would fortify their strategic alliance. They also addressed various regional and global issues.


The meeting at Al Baraka Palace included key officials such as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.


In a statement on social media, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson highlighted the 70-year milestone of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, emphasizing the shared maritime heritage and future aspirations of both nations. They discussed avenues to deepen the India-Oman Strategic Partnership.





The leaders acknowledged the CEPA as a pivotal development in their bilateral relations, asserting that it would significantly enhance the India-Oman strategic partnership. They exchanged insights on a wide array of topics, including defense, security, trade, investment, energy, agriculture, technology, and cultural exchanges.


Earlier, PM Modi addressed the Indian community at the 'Maitri Parv' event in Muscat and spoke at the India-Oman Business Forum.


During the Business Forum, which saw participation from industry leaders from both nations, PM Modi underscored the immense potential for economic collaboration and encouraged Omani businesses to invest and innovate in India.


PM Modi's visit to Oman marks the final leg of his three-nation tour. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, and received a ceremonial Guard of Honour.


This visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, following Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's state visit to India in December 2023, which reflects the ongoing high-level political engagement.


India and Oman enjoy a comprehensive strategic partnership, characterized by strong cooperation across various sectors. Oman is a crucial partner for India in the Gulf region, particularly in energy security, maritime collaboration, and regional stability.
