Muscat: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with enthusiasm by the Indian community in Muscat, Oman. Hundreds waved Indian flags and chanted slogans like "Modi Modi," "Bharat Mata ki Jai," and "Vande Mataram" as they welcomed him at his hotel.
During the event, PM Modi took the time to interact with many attendees and enjoyed various cultural performances that showcased India's rich heritage.
This visit marks the final leg of PM Modi's three-nation tour, and upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs.
The ceremonial welcome included a Guard of Honour, highlighting the significance of this visit.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed, "Landed in Muscat, Oman. This is a land of enduring friendship and deep historical connections with India. This visit offers an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and add fresh momentum to our partnership."
This trip is particularly notable as it is PM Modi's second visit to Oman, reflecting the strengthening ties between India and Oman.
Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, this visit follows Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to India in December 2023, emphasizing the high-level political engagement between the two nations.
During his stay, PM Modi is set to engage in extensive discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, focusing on various aspects of bilateral relations, including trade, investment, energy cooperation, defense, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. They will also discuss regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Ahead of the visit, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, noted that this is PM Modi's second trip to Oman since February 2018, underscoring the long-standing ties rooted in maritime trade and cultural connections.
Chatterjee mentioned, "The Honourable Prime Minister will undertake a comprehensive review of the entire spectrum of bilateral relations with His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest."
Additionally, PM Modi is expected to address business leaders from both nations at a forum aimed at enhancing commercial and investment ties.
India and Oman share a robust strategic partnership, with significant cooperation in energy security, maritime collaboration, and regional stability.
This visit is anticipated to further strengthen bilateral relations and invigorate India-Oman cooperation moving forward.
PM Modi arrived in Oman after a two-day state visit to Ethiopia, where he received a warm farewell from Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed Ali, who personally drove him to the airport.
During his time in Ethiopia, PM Modi addressed the Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Monument, and visited the Adwa Museum, where he learned about the country's history.
He was also honored with Ethiopia's highest civilian award, the 'Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia,' expressing his gratitude to the Ethiopian government and its people.
Bilateral discussions between PM Modi and Abiy Ahmed Ali covered a wide range of topics, including political cooperation and economic engagement.
In a personal touch, Abiy Ahmed Ali welcomed PM Modi at the airport and drove him to his hotel.
