WCL Rejects PCB's Conditions for NOC Amid Ongoing Tensions

The Pakistan Cricket Board's request for a No Objection Certificate for the Pakistan Champions team to participate in the World Championship of Legends has been rejected by the tournament management. The PCB's conditions included assurances regarding Indian players' participation and formal apologies from them for previous withdrawals. This situation highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, which have previously affected cricketing engagements. The refusal of the WCL to accept these demands raises questions about the future of the Pakistan Champions in the tournament.

PCB's NOC Conditions Turned Down by WCL

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has indicated its willingness to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Pakistan Champions team to compete in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) taking place in the UAE, but only under specific conditions.

As reported by WCL sources, the PCB requested certain guarantees from the tournament organizers, including a stipulation that Indian players would not participate in the event. Despite this, the WCL management did not accept any of the PCB's requests.

Additionally, the PCB demanded formal apologies from Indian players for their refusal to play against the Pakistan Champions in the previous year's tournament. They also suggested a handshake between the players to resolve the issue amicably. However, these conditions were also rejected by the WCL management.

While the tournament organizers agreed to the commercial terms proposed by the PCB, they dismissed the requests for apologies and player handshakes. This situation adds to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the participation of the Pakistan Champions in the forthcoming WCL.

Context of India-Pakistan Relations in WCL

In the last edition of the WCL, players from the India Champions opted not to take the field against the Pakistan Champions, citing geopolitical tensions and public sentiment following the Pahalgam terror attack.

The India Champions forfeited their semi-final match against the Pakistan Champions in the 2025 WCL, which allowed the latter to proceed directly to the finals. The Indian team, which included notable former players like Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and Harbhajan Singh, chose not to participate due to the prevailing tensions between the two nations.

This incident marked the second occasion in the tournament where the India Champions withdrew from a match against the Pakistan Champions, as they had previously canceled a group stage encounter for the same reasons.
