On Friday, Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli had a meeting with Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in London. The discussion revolved around various topics, including sports, infrastructure, and state government initiatives.

Shinde Praises Kohli's Humility

After their meeting, Deputy CM Shinde expressed his admiration for Kohli, calling him a 'down-to-earth' individual. He noted, 'Virat resides in London, and upon learning of my visit, he graciously met me. It was heartening to see such a prominent cricketer, known for his record number of centuries, being so humble. We have met previously, but today's conversation was particularly engaging.'

Shinde elaborated on the various welfare schemes in Maharashtra and highlighted the state's significant infrastructure developments. He mentioned projects like the 'Third Mumbai' initiative near the airport, the Atal Setu, the Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg, the coastal road, and metro expansions, along with improvements in education and healthcare.

He added, 'Maharashtra is currently leading in GDP, startups, infrastructure, and foreign direct investment. Kohli was pleased to learn about the ongoing transformations and their positive effects on the community. Our discussions also touched on the award I received, which recognized these very themes.' Shinde emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent, stating that Kohli shared insightful ideas that could benefit both the state and the nation.

Kohli's Recent Performance and Career Highlights

In the current ODI season, Kohli has amassed 384 runs across six innings, boasting an impressive average of 64.00 and a strike rate exceeding 106, including one century and three half-centuries. His recent performance in England saw him score 144 runs in three innings, with two fifties and a top score of 74.

As he aims for his 100th century, Kohli will have the opportunity to achieve this milestone during the upcoming home series against the West Indies, starting September 27. Currently, he has 85 centuries to his name.

With a total of 14,941 runs in 314 ODIs over 302 innings, averaging 58.59, and 54 centuries along with 79 fifties, Kohli is regarded as one of the greatest ODI batsmen in history. He is just 59 runs shy of becoming the second player to reach the 15,000-run mark in ODIs.
