Vir Das and Real Kashmir Football Club Shine with International Emmy Nominations!

Celebrating Indian Talent at the International Emmy Awards

Mumbai: Stand-up comedian Vir Das has received a nomination in the comedy category for the 2026 International Emmy Awards, which also acknowledged the Indian streaming series Real Kashmir Football Club in the drama series category.

This marks Das's third nomination at these prestigious awards, which honor outstanding television programs produced and aired outside the United States. The nominations were announced on Wednesday, featuring 64 nominees across 16 categories from 22 different countries.

Previously, Das was nominated for an International Emmy in 2021 for his special Vir Das: For India. He returned to the nominations in 2023 with Vir Das: Landing, winning the International Emmy for Comedy and also hosting the ceremony in 2024.

This year, he will be competing against shows like Division Palermo-season 2 from Argentina, Man Vs Baby from the UK, and Old Dog, New Trick from Spain, all of which are available on Netflix.

Real Kashmir Football Club, produced by Sony LIV, has been nominated alongside the UK’s A Thousand Blows, France’s Careme, and Argentina’s Menem in the Drama Series category.

Expressing his gratitude, Das stated, “Every few years, Netflix and I find a new reason to collaborate and create something slightly foolish, I mean, funny. I’m humbled once again to be nominated for an International Emmy. Fool Volume is about silence—what it means to have a voice and what happens when you actually use it. Starring Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Manav Kaul, Real Kashmir Football Club tells the story of two men who aspire to establish a professional football team in Kashmir. What begins as a shared dream evolves into a narrative of determination, community, and the opportunities football can create for the local populace.

Ayyub expressed hope that the Emmy recognition would broaden the show's audience. He stated, “It is always special to see our labor of love reach people and gain recognition. This was an important and relevant story for us to tell, one of resilience, courage, and hard work. We dedicate this recognition to the people of Kashmir, their resilience, and the struggles they have faced. I hope this nomination helps the story travel further and reach a wider audience.”

Mahesh Mathai, the showrunner and co-director of Real Kashmir Football Club, shared his honor at receiving the Emmy nomination. He said, “When you come across a great story, don’t let it pass you by; embrace it, nurture it, and push it through that long tunnel. It will find the light. We are honored that this special series has gained global recognition through an Emmy nomination.”

The winners of the 2026 International Emmy Awards will be revealed during the ceremony scheduled for November 23, 2026, in New York.
