Tragic Incidents on the Honduran Coast

On Thursday, gunmen executed two separate assaults along the Honduran coast, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 individuals, among them six police officers, according to law enforcement officials. The initial attack occurred at a plantation in Trujillo, located in northern Honduras, where a minimum of 10 workers were shot dead, as reported by National Police spokesperson Edgardo Barahona. This area has been embroiled in an agrarian conflict for many years.

In the second incident, gunmen targeted police officers in Omoa, situated in the Cortes department near the Guatemalan border, leading to the deaths of six officers, including a senior official. These officers were part of an anti-gang operation and were ambushed while en route to Omoa from the capital, Tegucigalpa. Barahona noted that while at least 10 workers were confirmed dead in Trujillo, the total number of casualties remains uncertain, as some victims' relatives have taken their bodies. Investigators have been dispatched to the locations of both attacks.

The National Police, along with armed forces, will be deployed to both sites of the violence, and specialized teams, including forensic experts and prosecutors, will be established to conduct thorough investigations, as stated by the Security Ministry.
