Caracas, Venezuela: A devastating series of earthquakes has resulted in at least 164 fatalities and left 971 individuals injured, according to Acting President Delcy Rodriguez's announcement on Thursday.


Initially, Rodriguez reported that the death toll stood at 32 following the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck on Wednesday evening, with expectations that the numbers would continue to climb.


These earthquakes are among the most powerful to hit Venezuela in over a century, with tremors felt across a wide area. Evacuations occurred in regions as distant as Brazil's Amazon, approximately 1,700 kilometers (1,050 miles) from Caracas.
