US President Addresses Shooting Incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Clarification on Shooting Incident
Washington DC: On Thursday evening, US President Donald Trump provided clarity regarding a shooting incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25. He stated that a Secret Service agent was "not hit by friendly fire." Trump conveyed this information to reporters, emphasizing that the investigation had ruled out friendly fire as a cause. This statement followed the release of footage by prosecutors that captured the moments leading up to the shooting at the event held at the Washington Hilton hotel.
During the dinner, which was attended by Trump and various officials, US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro shared on social media that video evidence shows Cole Allen shooting a Secret Service officer while attempting to assassinate the President. She confirmed that there was no indication of friendly fire involved in the incident. The video also depicted Allen surveying the hotel area a day prior to the attack, and Pirro assured that her office, in collaboration with the FBI, would continue to pursue justice against Allen.

The footage revealed Allen entering through a doorway leading to the security checkpoint, while also capturing the Secret Service's rapid response to the unfolding situation. Witnesses reported hearing between five to eight gunshots, prompting an immediate evacuation of the banquet hall, where numerous journalists, celebrities, and national leaders were gathered to hear Trump speak.
Fortunately, Trump was unharmed, and other high-ranking officials were swiftly evacuated. A law enforcement source indicated that a gunman had opened fire, resulting in one officer being shot in a bullet-resistant vest, but they are expected to recover. Cole Allen has since been taken into custody.
