US Prepares for Ground Operations in Iran Amid Rising Tensions
US Military Operations in Iran
Reports indicate that the United States is gearing up for several weeks of ground operations in Iran, with thousands of American soldiers and Marines deployed to West Asia. According to a recent article from a major news outlet, these operations will not constitute a full-scale invasion but will involve targeted raids by special forces and conventional infantry units. Such missions could expose US personnel to various threats, including Iranian drones, missiles, ground fire, and improvised explosive devices, as noted by US officials.
It remains uncertain whether President Donald Trump will endorse the Pentagon's strategy, especially as the administration has recently suggested that the conflict in Iran is "winding down." US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the military is "on or ahead of schedule" in its operations against Iran and anticipates achieving its goals "in a matter of weeks, not months." He emphasized that ground troops are unnecessary for accomplishing these objectives.
Following discussions with G7 allies in Paris, Rubio reiterated that the mission's goals have been clearly defined from the beginning. He expressed confidence in the operation's progress, stating, "We are on or ahead of schedule in that operation and expect to conclude it at the appropriate time here, in a matter of weeks, not months, and the progress is going very well." His remarks came after a report suggested that the Pentagon is preparing for a decisive strike against Iran, which may involve both ground forces and extensive airstrikes.
Additionally, another report indicated that Trump is becoming "bored" with the situation in Iran, expressing a desire to shift focus elsewhere.
Arrival of Marine Expeditionary Unit
In related developments, a Navy vessel carrying approximately 2,500 Marines reached West Asia on Saturday. The USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship, along with elements from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit stationed in Japan, was conducting exercises near Taiwan before being redirected to West Asia nearly two weeks ago. US Central Command confirmed that the Tripoli also brings transport and strike fighter aircraft, along with amphibious assault capabilities to the region.
Furthermore, the USS Boxer and two additional ships, along with another Marine Expeditionary Unit, have been dispatched to the area from San Diego.
Iran's Stark Warning
In response to the escalating situation, Iran issued a stark warning to the United States regarding the potential for a ground invasion. A provocative message from Tehran’s English-language daily, Tehran Times, appeared to mock US forces. The publication featured a photo of American soldiers and cautioned that any attempt to deploy troops on Iranian soil could lead to dire consequences, stating that those who enter would only leave in a "coffin." The front page headline ominously declared: “Welcome To Hell. US troops who step foot on Iranian soil will leave only in a coffin."
