Significant Shift in US-Venezuela Relations

Washington: The United States has officially lifted sanctions against Delcy Rodriguez, the Acting President of Venezuela, as announced by the US Treasury Department.

On Wednesday, the Office of Foreign Assets Control revealed that Rodriguez has been removed from the sanctions list, although no further details were provided regarding this decision, according to reports from a news agency.

Rodriguez took to social media platform X to express her approval of this development, viewing it as a constructive step towards enhancing and normalizing relations between the two nations. She voiced optimism that further sanctions could also be lifted to foster economic growth and collaboration.

In her post, Rodriguez stated, "President Trump’s decision marks a crucial advancement towards normalizing and strengthening our bilateral relations. We are hopeful that this momentum will lead to the removal of additional sanctions on our nation."

She further emphasized that such actions would pave the way for swift economic progress, investment opportunities, and a robust agenda for bilateral cooperation that would benefit both nations. "Let’s continue striving for a prosperous Venezuela for everyone!" she concluded.

Previously, Rodriguez held the position of vice president under President Nicolas Maduro and faced US sanctions in 2018 as part of broader measures against Maduro's administration.

Following a significant military operation by US forces on January 3, which resulted in the capture of Maduro and his spouse, Rodriguez stepped into the role of acting president, leading to renewed engagement from Washington with her government.

Historically, US-Venezuela relations have been fraught with tension. However, in recent months, the US has relaxed certain restrictions, especially in the energy sector, recognizing Venezuela's vast oil reserves and its critical role in the global energy market.

Additionally, the US Embassy in Caracas resumed its operations on Monday after a closure lasting seven years.
