US Forces Target Vessel Off Oman Amid Ongoing Tensions
US Military Action Against MT Jalveer
On Thursday, the United States Central Command confirmed that it launched two Hellfire missiles at the MT Jalveer, a vessel with an Indian crew, near the coast of Oman. This incident marks the third attack on a ship by US forces within a span of three days. The missiles targeted the engine room of the ship, which was carrying 20 Indian crew members.
According to a statement from CENTCOM, the attack occurred at 11:20 p.m. ET on June 10, as the ship was reportedly attempting to breach a blockade against Iran by transporting Iranian oil. The command noted, "U.S. forces disabled an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman after the vessel violated the blockade," highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
In a related incident, CENTCOM released footage of the missile strike, assuring that all crew members aboard the MT Jalveer were rescued. The US military also acknowledged that it had previously disabled two other vessels, the M/T Marivex and M/T Settebello, for similar violations earlier in the week.

Since the blockade was initiated on April 13, US forces have disabled nine vessels that did not comply with the regulations, redirected 135 compliant ships, and permitted 42 vessels carrying humanitarian aid to pass through. The blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has significantly impacted global oil trade, as this waterway is crucial for transporting 20% of the world's crude and liquefied natural gas.
In the backdrop of these events, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also established a de facto blockade in the region following US and Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28.
