US Forces Conduct Strikes Against Iran Following Helicopter Incident
US Military Response to Iranian Aggression
In a swift reaction to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump accused Iran of the attack and promised retaliation. Following his directive, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) initiated self-defense strikes against Iranian targets at 5 PM ET. The military stated that these actions are a measured response to what they termed 'unjustified Iranian aggression.'
Reports from Iran's Fars news agency indicated that multiple explosions were heard in the eastern regions of Hormozgan province, specifically in Kuhistak, Sirik, and Minab. Additionally, there were indications of air defense operations occurring in various parts of the province.
On Truth Social, Trump mentioned that military officials had informed him about the incident involving the Iranian forces shooting down the Apache helicopter while it was on patrol. He stated, 'I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz.'
In contrast, Iran has denied any involvement in the incident. The state broadcaster IRIB quoted a military official asserting that no military operations had taken place over the strait in the preceding 24 hours. Following Trump's remarks, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that foreign forces near Iranian territory are at risk due to potential human errors or accidents. He suggested that the best way to mitigate these risks would be for foreign forces to withdraw, emphasizing Iran's preference for diplomatic dialogue while also being prepared for other forms of communication.
