US Fighter Pilot Describes Unusual Drone Formation Before Crash in Iran
Details of the Incident
Washington DC: A US fighter pilot, who was rescued by special forces after his plane was downed over Iran in April, reported observing a peculiar arrangement of Iranian drones just prior to ejecting from the aircraft, according to sources cited by CNN. The pilot described the drones as flying in a configuration reminiscent of a ‘jellyfish formation.’ During a debriefing with intelligence officials, he detailed the moments leading up to his ejection, raising significant concerns within US intelligence circles. If verified, this could indicate a notable and alarming advancement in Iran's drone capabilities.
In this formation, smaller drones operated in sync with larger ones. One source explained, “Multiple drones interconnected and moving as one with smaller drones below the bigger drones like legs.” The precise reason for the crash remains under investigation. Importantly, this incident marked the first documented case of a US military aircraft being shot down over Iran since the onset of the conflict in February. The F-15E was reportedly targeted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on April 3, with two crew members aboard—a pilot and a weapons system officer. The pilot was rescued a few hours post-crash, while the weapons systems officer successfully evaded capture for over 24 hours before being rescued on April 4 from deep within enemy territory.
This event has reignited US President Donald Trump's longstanding fears of a situation reminiscent of the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis, which was politically detrimental during Jimmy Carter's presidency. During the rescue mission, an A-10 aircraft also went down, but its pilot managed to eject safely outside Iranian borders. Reports indicate that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) attempted to mislead Iranian officials before the crew member was successfully located.
