Conflicting Reports on US-Iran Negotiations

As the second round of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran approaches, uncertainty looms. Reports have emerged that contradict each other regarding the attendance of Iranian representatives at the talks scheduled to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan. Just a day after Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that its delegation would not engage in discussions with the US, new information surfaced indicating that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has authorized the negotiating team to proceed to Islamabad.

According to Axios, Khamenei granted this permission on the evening of April 20. In parallel, it has been reported that US Vice President JD Vance is anticipated to travel to Islamabad by Tuesday morning to engage in discussions with Iran regarding a potential agreement aimed at concluding the ongoing conflict. The current 14-day ceasefire between the two nations is set to expire on April 22.

Additionally, US President Donald Trump issued a warning on Monday, threatening Iran with military action should they fail to meet the deadline for negotiations. The US has been awaiting a clear indication from Tehran regarding its willingness to participate in the peace talks. Reports suggest that Iran's hesitation to move forward with the second round of discussions may be influenced by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
