Two Men Charged in UK for Alleged Espionage Linked to Iran's Jewish Community

Espionage Charges Filed Against Two Individuals

London: Authorities in the UK have formally charged two individuals for allegedly spying on the Jewish community in Britain on behalf of Iran.

The accused, 40-year-old Nematollah Shahsavani, a dual Iranian-British national, and 22-year-old Iranian Alireza Farasati, face allegations of actions that could aid a foreign intelligence agency, specifically Iran.

Frank Ferguson, who oversees counterterrorism efforts at the Crown Prosecution Service, indicated that the charges stem from activities conducted within the UK, including information gathering and reconnaissance of specific targets.

Both individuals reside in London and are scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates' Court for their initial hearing on Thursday.

They were apprehended on March 6, alongside two other British-Iranian nationals who were later released without any charges.

Ken McCallum, the head of MI5, mentioned in October that over 20 potentially dangerous plots linked to Iran had been thwarted in the past year.
