Two Indian Nationals Arrested in Nepal for Brown Sugar Smuggling

Kathmandu: In a recent operation, law enforcement in Nepal's Jhapa district apprehended two individuals from India on charges of brown sugar smuggling, according to police reports.

The suspects were taken into custody in Ward No. 2 of Damak Municipality, where authorities seized 41.23 grams of brown sugar, as detailed in a police bulletin released on Wednesday.

Brown sugar is a colloquial term often associated with heroin, particularly the lower-purity or brown-hued variants of the substance. This drug is known for its high potential for addiction, being derived from morphine.

A specialized unit from the Anti-Narcotic Drug Bureau conducted the arrests on Wednesday, identifying the individuals as Mohamad Firoj, aged 19, and Chandan Kumar Mandal, aged 25, both hailing from Araria district in Bihar.

The arrests were made following a tip-off, and authorities have indicated that further investigations are ongoing.
