Trump's Visit to China: Key Discussions with Xi Jinping
Significant Meeting Between Trump and Xi
During a three-day trip to China, US President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday. This marked their first face-to-face encounter, where they engaged in discussions covering a wide array of topics, including the situation in Iran and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview with a news channel, Trump mentioned that Jinping expressed a desire to assist in keeping the vital Strait of Hormuz open and showed interest in facilitating a potential agreement regarding Iran. Trump stated, "Xi would like to see a deal. He said that if he can be of ANY help at all, he would like to be of help." He further noted, "Anyone who purchases that much oil certainly has some form of relationship with them," referring to Iran.
When questioned about whether Jinping discussed military support for Iran, Trump clarified that the Chinese leader assured him that Beijing would not provide any military assistance to Tehran. These comments followed their extensive bilateral meeting, where they also addressed trade, regional security, energy collaboration, and the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to maintain the global energy supply.
Additionally, the two leaders explored ways to enhance economic cooperation between the United States and China during this significant visit.
