Trump's Controversial Social Media Post Sparks Diplomatic Clarification
US President's Remarks on India
US officials took steps on Thursday to mitigate the fallout from a contentious social media post by President Donald Trump. The administration emphasized that Trump regards India as a "great" nation led by a "good friend of mine."
The President expressed, "India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top," according to a spokesperson from the US embassy.
This clarification was issued following inquiries from Indian journalists regarding the backlash stemming from Trump's repost of comments made by radio host Michael Savage, who had labeled India, China, and other nations as "hellholes."
The embassy representative did not provide details on when or where Trump made his positive remarks about India.
Savage's comments were made in relation to a Supreme Court case in the United States concerning birthright citizenship.
In response to the ongoing controversy, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "We have seen some reports. That is where I leave it."
