Trump's Bold Claims: U.S. Strikes on Iran's Nuclear Sites Spark Global Tensions
U.S. Military Action Against Iran
Washington: President Donald Trump has declared that no military force globally could have executed the recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. He cautioned Tehran that if peace is not swiftly achieved, the U.S. will target additional sites with 'precision, speed, and skill.'
This statement follows Trump's announcement of U.S. bombings on three nuclear sites in Iran, warning of further precision strikes unless Iran ceases its hostilities towards Israel. The targeted facilities reportedly include the heavily fortified Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear sites.
During a media briefing shortly after the strikes on Saturday (U.S. time), Trump expressed his admiration for the U.S. military, stating, 'I want to congratulate the great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight and all of the United States military on an operation, the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades. Hopefully, we no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope so.'
'This cannot continue. There will either be peace or tragedy for Iran, far greater than what we have witnessed over the last eight days. Remember, there are many targets left.'
'Tonight was the most difficult of them all by far and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed, and skill. Most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes. There is no military in the world that could have done what we did tonight, not even close. There has never been a military that could have done what took place just a little while ago,' he added.
Trump emphasized that the strikes aimed to undermine Iran's 'nuclear enrichment capacity' and eliminate the nuclear threat posed by what he termed the world's leading state sponsor of terror.
Despite extensive diplomatic efforts to renegotiate a nuclear deal with Tehran following the U.S. exit from the 2015 agreement in 2018, Trump has now fully backed Israel's military actions against Iran's nuclear infrastructure and senior military figures, a campaign that began just over a week ago.
In his remarks, Trump expressed gratitude to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating, 'I want to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team, like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we’ve gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel. I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they’ve done.'
The air conflict between the U.S. and Iran escalated on June 13 when Israel executed a surprise attack on Iran.
Israeli officials claimed the offensive was a preemptive action to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, a claim Iran has consistently denied.
This ongoing conflict has heightened tensions in the region, which is already strained due to Israel's extended military operations in Gaza since October 2023.
The recent military exchanges have now involved the United States directly.
Iranian state media reported that parts of the Fordow nuclear facility were struck in what they termed 'enemy strikes,' although details regarding the extent of the damage remain scarce.
