Trump's Approval Rating Dips Amid Iran Conflict and Rising Fuel Prices
Trump Faces Approval Rating Decline
Washington DC: In light of the ongoing conflict in Iran, President Donald Trump has seen his approval rating drop to its lowest level since he resumed his role in the White House. This decline is attributed to rising fuel prices, which have surged following Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The survey indicates that only 36 percent of Americans currently approve of Trump's performance, a decrease from 40 percent just a week prior. The poll highlights a significant shift in public opinion regarding Trump's management of the economy and the escalating cost of living, particularly as oil and gas prices have risen since the conflict began on February 28.
Only 25 percent of respondents expressed satisfaction with Trump's approach to managing living costs, a key issue he has emphasized during his 2024 presidential campaign. Furthermore, just 29 percent of Americans approve of his economic policies, marking the lowest ratings of his two terms and falling below those of any of his predecessors, including Joe Biden.
Initially, Trump's overall approval rating was 47 percent at the start of his presidency, and it hovered around 40 percent last summer, which is still above his average of 33 percent during his first term. Amanda Makki, a Republican strategist, stated, “It's crucial for people to understand that the president empathizes with their struggles and that assistance is forthcoming.”
Approximately 34 percent of Republican lawmakers are reportedly dissatisfied with Trump's management of the Middle East situation, a rise from 29 percent the previous week. The poll also revealed that 35 percent of Americans support the U.S. military strikes on Iran, a slight decrease from 37 percent in the prior week. Meanwhile, 61 percent disapprove of these strikes, up from 59 percent last week. In a separate poll conducted between February 28 and March 1, only 27 percent approved of the strikes, while 43 percent disapproved, and 29 percent were uncertain. Additionally, 46 percent of Americans believe that the Iran conflict will ultimately make the U.S. less secure.
