Trump Set to Attend NBA Finals Game in New York
Trump's Anticipated Presence at NBA Finals
According to various sources, former US President Donald Trump is likely to be present at Game 3 of the NBA Finals, scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York. This event, which will occur on Monday night, marks the first NBA Finals game held in New York in nearly three decades. The information was shared by four league insiders who requested anonymity due to restrictions on discussing White House schedules.
Trump, who hails from New York, had previously mentioned that he received an invitation from James Dolan, the governor of the New York Knicks, to attend a playoff game. He has also shown interest in watching the Knicks if they made it to the NBA Finals. Should Trump attend, he may find himself at the same venue as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. A representative for the mayor indicated that plans for his attendance were still being finalized, and it was uncertain if he would be at Game 3. However, Mamdani stated in an NBC interview that if both he and Trump were present, they would not be seated together.
The last sitting president to attend an NBA game was Barack Obama, who watched a match between the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015. The NBA is actively participating in celebrations for the nation's 250th anniversary, with championship teams donning America250 patches on their uniforms as part of this initiative. Earlier this year, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was set to attend a press conference to announce this program, but it was canceled due to severe weather and scheduling conflicts with the NFL. Since his return to public life, Trump has been seen at several significant sporting events, including the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans and the College Football National Championship in January.
