In a recent 90-minute conversation, US President Donald Trump extended an offer to assist in resolving the ongoing war in Ukraine during a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. This discussion coincided with the United States celebrating its 250th anniversary, during which Putin congratulated Trump on the occasion. Ushakov noted that this was the fourth dialogue between the two leaders this year, emphasizing that it was not just a routine exchange but rather a constructive conversation focused on significant bilateral and international matters.

Potential Mediation Efforts

During their discussion, Putin provided insights into the current battlefield dynamics, highlighting the advancements of Russian forces along the entire contact line. Ushakov pointed out that European nations have a skewed understanding of the situation on the ground amid the conflict. Trump expressed his willingness to mediate, particularly in light of his upcoming participation in the NATO summit in Turkey. He mentioned that US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would continue their efforts to facilitate a resolution and were ready for another trip to Moscow.

In related news, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian president, stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could visit Moscow to meet with Putin when he is prepared to make what the Kremlin deems important and responsible decisions. Peskov commented on Zelensky's suggestion to meet in Kostiantynivka, reiterating that Moscow is the capital of Russia and the appropriate venue for such discussions.
