Criticism of Trump's Remarks on Iran

Republican figures and conservative commentators have expressed their disapproval of US President Donald Trump's recent statements, in which he threatened to annihilate Iran if it fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump ominously stated, "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will." He had previously set a deadline of 8 p.m. Eastern time for Iran to restore access to this crucial shipping lane.

Iran has limited access to the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil transport, seemingly to apply pressure on the United States. Trump's comments have sparked outrage from both his long-time adversaries and some former supporters. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who once backed Trump, called for his removal, stating, "25TH AMENDMENT!!!" She emphasized, "Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness." Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones also condemned Trump's remarks, labeling them as a "WAR CRIME ALERT!!" He remarked, "The definition of genocide is destroying an entire civilization/people! Trump literally sounds like an unhinged super villain from a Marvel comic movie." He concluded with, "This IS NOT WHAT WE VOTED FOR!!!"

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci urged Congress to take action, tagging Senate Majority Leader John Thune and questioning, "Are you serious right now? Are you not going to denounce this? Are you not going to seek the removal of this crazy person?" He added, "Wake up: he is calling for A NUCLEAR STRIKE. Seek his removal immediately." According to Article I of the US Constitution, Congress holds the power to impeach a president, while the 25th Amendment permits the vice president and a majority of the cabinet to declare a president unfit for office.

Conservative commentator Candace Owens also advocated for the amendment's invocation, stating, "The 25th amendment needs to be invoked. He is a genocidal lunatic. Our Congress and military need to intervene. We are beyond madness." Long-time Trump critic Bill Kristol simply stated, "Impeach Trump." Just days prior, Trump had issued a similar warning, declaring, "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F--kin' Strait, you crazy b-----ds, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah." In response to that earlier post, Jones questioned during his program, "How do we 25th Amendment his a--?"
