Trump's Defense of Xi Jinping

During his visit to Beijing, US President Donald Trump came to the defense of Chinese President Xi Jinping after Xi allegedly described the United States as a potentially declining nation. Trump contended that Xi's comments were directed at the Biden administration rather than reflecting the current state of the US under his leadership. In a detailed post on Truth Social early Friday, Trump stated that Xi was referencing the significant damage inflicted during the four years of the Biden administration, asserting, “On that score, he was 100% correct.”

Trump criticized the previous administration for various issues, including open borders, high taxes, and social policies. For years, Xi has promoted the narrative that 'The East is rising while the West is declining,' often specifically targeting the US, citing political strife and economic shifts as indicators of America's long-term decline. However, it remains uncertain if Xi made similar comments during their private discussions this week.

Trump Says US Has Seen ‘Incredible Rise’

Trump emphasized that Xi was not acknowledging the remarkable growth the US has experienced during his administration, which he described as '16 spectacular months.' He pointed to record-high stock markets, substantial investments totaling $18 trillion, and what he called the 'best job market in US history.' Additionally, Trump addressed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, stating that the 'military decimation of Iran' would continue, amidst concerns about the fragile ceasefire with Iran.

Before his trip to China, Trump remarked that the ceasefire was on 'massive life support,' while Vice President JD Vance noted that progress was being made. These discussions coincided with high-level talks between Trump and Xi, which focused on critical issues such as Iran, trade, Taiwan, and energy security. Xi characterized US-China relations as 'the world’s most consequential relationship' and cautioned that Taiwan remains a pivotal issue, warning that mismanagement could lead to a 'very dangerous situation.' Trump also claimed that Xi assured him China would refrain from supplying military equipment to Tehran and expressed willingness to assist in resolving the Iran conflict.
