Trump Criticizes UK Prime Minister Over Strait of Hormuz Blockade Plans
Trump's Strong Words Against UK Leadership
In a recent statement, former US President Donald Trump has taken aim at UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer following the announcement that the UK will not participate in a proposed US-led blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump revealed on Sunday that the United States, along with several other nations, plans to restrict maritime traffic in this vital waterway, which is responsible for transporting approximately 20% of the world's oil and liquid gas supply. The route has faced significant disruptions since the onset of the conflict, with Iran reportedly targeting vessels unless they agree to pay a toll.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump proclaimed, “The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade.” He emphasized that Iran should not benefit from what he termed an 'Illegal Act of EXTORTION,' asserting that Iran seeks financial gain and nuclear capabilities.
Trump escalated his rhetoric by stating, “Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully ‘LOCKED AND LOADED,’ and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran!” Despite these assertions, the UK government is not anticipated to join the blockade initiative. While British mine hunters are already deployed in the area, a government representative refrained from endorsing Trump's strategy. They stated, “We continue to support freedom of navigation and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is urgently needed to support the global economy and the cost of living back home.”
The spokesperson further noted, “The Strait of Hormuz must not be subject to tolling. We are urgently working with France and other partners to put together a wide coalition to protect freedom of navigation.” In a separate Fox News interview, Trump directly criticized Starmer, likening him to Neville Chamberlain. He remarked, “Nato is shameful. I mean, look at the United Kingdom.” Trump also commented on Starmer’s position regarding military aid, saying, “PM Starmer said ‘we’ll send the equipment after the war is over’. I said ‘you don’t need equipment when the war is over. You need the equipment before the war starts, or during the war’… that’s a Neville Chamberlain statement.”
