Trump Criticizes Netanyahu Amid US-Iran Peace Deal Announcement
US President's Remarks on Netanyahu
Washington DC: During a recent interview with a prominent newspaper, US President Donald Trump referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a "very difficult guy." This comment was made in the context of Netanyahu's actions that Trump believes could jeopardize the newly proposed peace agreement between the US and Iran. Trump stated, "He’s a very difficult guy," and suggested that Netanyahu should express gratitude towards the US for facilitating the deal. He emphasized, "To be honest with you, he should be very thankful to us for doing this. Because if Iran had a nuclear weapon, Israel wouldn’t be around for two hours," highlighting the critical nature of the agreement.
Trump's statements coincided with the announcement of a framework for a peace deal aimed at resolving ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The agreement stipulates a cessation of military operations and the resumption of discussions on various topics, including Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Details of the Iran Deal
Trump Announces Iran Deal: On the same day, Trump declared that a deal had been reached with Iran, which includes the lifting of the US naval blockade, thereby reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz. In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump proclaimed, "The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!" He further stated that he was authorizing the immediate removal of the blockade, urging, "Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" He confirmed, "I hereby fully authorize the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade."
In a follow-up post, Trump indicated that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened "upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal."
Iran's Confirmation of the Deal
Iran Confirms: Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, confirmed to local media that a memorandum for the peace deal is set to be signed on June 19. He noted that while the full agreement will take effect on Friday, two key aspects would be implemented immediately: "1. A permanent and immediate end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. 2. The lifting and termination of the naval blockade that the United States had imposed against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Additionally, Iran's Supreme National Security Council announced that it had finalized the memorandum of understanding for a ceasefire under the leadership of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
