US-Iran Peace Talks Fail

Washington DC: Following the breakdown of peace negotiations between the US and Iran in Islamabad, President Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating limited military responses against Iran, in addition to enforcing a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, Trump and his team are considering resuming airstrikes to overcome the deadlock in discussions. While a full-scale bombing campaign is on the table, its likelihood is low due to potential regional destabilization. Instead, Trump may prioritize a naval blockade and could urge allies to assist with escort missions through the strait.

The White House dismissed these reports as speculation. White House spokesperson Olivia Wales stated, "The President has already ordered a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, ending the Iranian extortion, and wisely keeps all additional options on the table," as reported by WSJ.

Trump's Stance on Negotiations

Regarding Iran's return to negotiations, Trump expressed indifference, stating, "I don't know. I don't care if they come back or not. If they don't come back, I'm fine. Their military is gone. Their missiles are largely depleted. The manufacturing capability for missiles and drones is largely defeated. We've been very nice. We haven't ripped down too many bridges... And remember, their promise was that they were going to open the Strait of Hormuz. They didn't do it. They lied," he told the press.

Criticism of NATO

Trump also voiced his dissatisfaction with NATO allies, noting their lack of support during the Iran conflict despite the US's financial contributions. "They're going to be coming up. But I'm very disappointed in NATO. They weren't there for us. We pay trillions of dollars for NATO, and they weren't there for us. Now they want to come up, but there's no real threat anymore. But NATO was not there for us. We spent trillions of dollars on NATO to help it guard against Russia," he remarked.

Naval Blockade Announcement

Trump officially declared the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stating on Truth Social that the talks with Iran failed due to Tehran's unwillingness to abandon its nuclear ambitions. He wrote, "Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz."

According to CENTCOM, the US will restrict all maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports, including those in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The blockade will be enforced fairly against vessels from all nations, although US forces will not obstruct ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ports.
