A Historic Victory Acknowledged
Port of Spain: The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has expressed her congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the BJP's remarkable electoral success in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
On Wednesday, she shared her sentiments on social media platform 'X', stating, "The Government of Trinidad and Tobago extends heartfelt congratulations to Shree Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister of India, and to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their impressive and historic win in West Bengal on Monday."
She highlighted that this victory signifies a pivotal moment in Indian politics, marking the first time the BJP has triumphed in the West Bengal Assembly elections, a state with a population exceeding 100 million.
Persad-Bissessar emphasized India's status as the world's largest democracy, noting, "India stands proudly as the world’s largest democracy, and Prime Minister Modi’s composed and disciplined leadership continues to inspire confidence among the Indian populace amid significant global transformations and opportunities."
Additionally, she mentioned the anticipated official visit of India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, later this week.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar remarked, "We eagerly await the visit of Dr. the Honourable Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, as our nations work to enhance our enduring partnership, founded on shared democratic principles, robust people-to-people connections, and a mutual commitment to progress and international collaboration."
In response, EAM Jaishankar expressed gratitude, stating, "Thank you, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, for your warm welcome. I look forward to visiting Trinidad and Tobago soon and collaborating with you and your team to further strengthen the ties between India and Trinidad and Tobago."
