Tragic Twin Blasts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Leave Seven Dead
Overview of the Incident
On Saturday, a devastating incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals, with three others sustaining injuries due to two separate roadside explosions, as reported by local police. No group has yet taken responsibility for these attacks.
The blasts occurred in the Marka Bera region of Bannu district. According to Yasir Afridi, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Bannu, the first explosion was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) placed along the roadside, which struck a passenger van, killing five people instantly. Shortly after, a second explosion targeted those who rushed to assist the victims of the first blast, resulting in two additional fatalities and damage to a vehicle.
Emergency services transported the injured and deceased to a nearby hospital, and an investigation has been initiated. The passenger van was reportedly en route from Hathi Khel village to Bannu city when it was caught in the blast.
In response to the tragedy, security forces and law enforcement have secured the area and begun gathering evidence. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, condemned the attacks, labeling them as "highly tragic" and "heartbreaking." He has called for a comprehensive report from police authorities and ordered a thorough investigation into the events surrounding the blasts.
Expressing condolences to the families affected, he assured them that the provincial government would extend all necessary support during this challenging time. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government would ensure the best medical care for the injured. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, also expressed his condemnation of the blasts.
