Devastating Attack in Southern Ukraine
Kyiv: A recent Russian assault in southern Ukraine has resulted in a tragic death toll of 29 individuals, with 48 others reported missing. This attack occurred as civilians gathered to receive humanitarian assistance, coinciding with a series of overnight strikes that targeted power facilities nationwide, causing injuries to numerous people.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia unleashed a barrage of 289 attack drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and 59 cruise missiles across nine regions, leading to emergency power outages. He remarked that this offensive coincided with the U.S. elections, suggesting a calculated message from Russia.
Zelenskyy emphasized the need for the international community to recognize and respond to these acts of terror, urging support for Ukraine's air defense to prevent further missile attacks from Russia.
The initial strike targeted a school repurposed for humanitarian aid distribution in the village of Komyushuvakha, located in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, before hitting a nearby shelter.
Among the deceased were four police officers and two rescue workers, as reported by Mykhailo Semikin, the acting head of the regional military administration. At least five individuals sustained injuries.
In the Kharkiv region, a combination of missile and drone strikes injured at least 62 people, according to local officials. A medical facility in the Nemyshlianskyi district was damaged, and windows in four apartment buildings were shattered, prompting the transfer of over 200 patients to other hospitals.
In Dnipro, rescuers managed to save a woman from the rubble after a Russian attack resulted in one fatality and 17 injuries. This assault also damaged an outpatient clinic and a hospital, necessitating patient transfers.
Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed to have intercepted 856 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Moscow's mayor reported that 493 drones were directed at the Russian capital.
Additionally, a Ukrainian drone strike injured two workers at an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia, causing damage to the facility's infrastructure.
In response to the attacks on energy infrastructure, rolling blackouts have been implemented in southern, western, and eastern regions of Russian-occupied Crimea, as stated by officials installed by Moscow.
