Authorities in Louisiana have provided additional information regarding a mass shooting that occurred in Shreveport, revealing the identities of the victims and the timeline of events. According to police reports, Shamar Elkins was responsible for the tragic incident on Sunday, which resulted in the deaths of eight children before he was fatally shot by deputies following a pursuit. The Caddo Parish coroner’s office has identified the deceased children as Jayla Elkins, aged 3; Shayla Elkins, aged 5; Kayla Pugh, aged 6; Layla Pugh, aged 6; Markaydon Pugh, aged 10; Sariahh Snow, aged 11; Khedarrion Snow, aged 6; and Braylon Snow, aged 5.

In addition, two adult women were shot and are currently in critical condition. One of the women, Shaneiqua Pugh, 34, is the wife of the suspect, while the other is the mother of three of Elkins’ children. Reports indicate that Elkins initially shot Pugh before turning his weapon on the children. Emergency services were contacted by Pugh when Elkins entered their home and began firing. A second call was made as she and one of the children attempted to escape through the roof. Wayne Smith, a police spokesperson, stated: "One minute later, the caller advised that she and her children had fled from the roof and were now in the backyard; 6:01 a.m. officers arrived on the scene." Pugh is reported to have sustained "very serious injuries," while the second woman is facing "life-threatening" injuries.

Officials have indicated that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute related to the couple’s separation, which was scheduled to be addressed in court on Monday. Public records referenced by media sources reveal that Elkins and Pugh had been married for approximately two years and had four children together, all of whom were among the victims. Family members of Elkins have described him as having faced significant struggles leading up to the incident. His stepfather, Marcus Jackson, shared with the New York Times: "I told him, ‘You can beat stuff, man. I don’t care what you’re going through, you can beat it.'" Elkins reportedly responded, "Some people don’t come back from their demons." Family members also noted that he had shown signs of distress regarding the divorce on social media. Authorities have yet to disclose further details regarding the motive, aside from the domestic dispute. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing.
