The suspect, named Shamar Elkins, was pursued by local law enforcement before being fatally shot while driving into the city. On Saturday, he posted a picture with his eldest daughter during a special outing, captioning it with laughter and joy. Two weeks prior, he had shared a photo with seven children, celebrating Easter at church, expressing gratitude for the blessed day spent with his kids.

However, a post from April 9 hinted at potential mental health issues, where he sought divine assistance in managing his thoughts and feelings. He wrote a heartfelt prayer asking for help to guard his mind against negativity and to recognize and reject feelings of depression and anxiety.

A photo from 2016, shared by his wife, depicted him in a United States Army uniform, marking his return from active duty. The investigation into the shooting is now under the jurisdiction of Louisiana State Police, as it involves multiple parishes.
