Arrests Made Following Lynching Incident

Dhaka: In a shocking incident, seven individuals have been detained in relation to the lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, as announced by the interim government on Saturday.

The victim, Dipu Chandra Das, aged 25, was brutally killed by a mob and subsequently set ablaze over accusations of blasphemy in Mymensingh city on Thursday.

The interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhhamad Yunus, confirmed via a statement on X that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) apprehended the suspects during various operations.

The arrested individuals, whose ages range from 19 to 46, were taken into custody at different locations.

According to police reports, Das, a factory worker, was initially assaulted by a mob outside his workplace due to the blasphemy claims and was later hanged from a tree.

The mob then abandoned his body on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and set it on fire.

Authorities recovered the remains and transported them to the Mymensingh Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

On Friday, the interim government condemned the act of lynching, asserting that such violence has no place in the new Bangladesh.

They vowed that those responsible for this atrocious act will face justice.

The Hindu community in Bangladesh has faced increasing violence against minorities since the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August of the previous year.
