Tragic Incident in Thailand: Pickup Truck Hits Monks, Resulting in Multiple Fatalities

Devastating Accident Claims Lives of Monks

In a tragic event in northeastern Thailand, an 11-year-old boy drove a pickup truck into a group of monks participating in a pilgrimage, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals, as reported by local authorities.

The monks, numbering 35 from Mukdahan province, were approximately 600 kilometers from Bangkok when the incident occurred. Five monks lost their lives at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries in a hospital, according to Mukdahan Governor Worrayan Boonnarat. Additionally, fourteen monks were hospitalized, with four in critical condition.

The group had commenced their 260-kilometer journey to Ubon Ratchathani province just half an hour prior to the collision.

Footage from a security camera, released by the Ruam Jai Mukdahan Rescue Association, captures the monks walking in a line along the roadside before the truck veered off course and struck them.

Local law enforcement has taken the boy into custody and plans to conduct interviews once state child protection officials arrive.

While the investigation into the accident is ongoing, police reported that the monks observed the vehicle swerving before it left the road and collided with them.
