International Condolences Following New Delhi Fire

Toronto: The tragic fire incident in New Delhi has drawn condolences from both Canada and the UAE, as it resulted in the loss of at least 21 lives, including 12 foreign nationals, with many others injured.

The fire erupted in a building located in south Delhi on Wednesday, claiming the lives of individuals who were primarily foreign visitors, either seeking medical treatment or accompanying patients at a nearby private hospital.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand expressed her sorrow over the incident in a post on X, stating, "Deeply saddened by the tragic fire that claimed at least 21 lives and injured many others in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi."

Anand further emphasized Canada's support for India during this difficult period, extending heartfelt condolences to the families affected and mentioning her communication with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to express solidarity.

The building where the fire occurred reportedly housed a bed-and-breakfast, but authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze. Approximately 40 individuals were rescued and taken to hospitals for treatment, according to officials.

The UAE's Foreign Ministry also conveyed its condolences and sympathy to the victims' families, as well as to the Indian government and its citizens, following the tragic event.

In an official statement, the UAE expressed its solidarity with India, acknowledging the fire at a hotel in Malviya Nagar that resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries, and wished for a swift recovery for those injured.
