Heartbreaking Incident in Edmonton

Toronto: A 44-year-old man of Indian descent has tragically passed away, reportedly from cardiac arrest, after enduring an eight-hour wait for medical attention in the emergency department of a Canadian hospital, according to a news report.

Prashant Sreekumar began suffering from intense chest pain while at work on December 22, as reported by Global News.

A client transported him to Grey Nuns Hospital located in southeast Edmonton, where he was registered at triage and subsequently seated in the waiting area.

His father, Kumar Sreekumar, arrived shortly thereafter.

Kumar recounted, 'He told me, ‘Papa, I cannot bear the pain.’'

Prashant expressed to both his father and the hospital staff that his pain level was a staggering 15 out of 10.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) was performed to assess his heart's condition, but the family claims he was informed that there were no significant issues and advised to continue waiting.

Hospital staff provided him with Tylenol for his discomfort.

As time dragged on, Kumar noted that nurses periodically checked Prashant's blood pressure.

'It kept rising, and to me, it was through the roof,' he stated.

After more than eight hours, Prashant was finally called into the treatment area.

'He had barely sat down for 10 seconds when he looked at me, stood up, placed his hand on his chest, and collapsed,' Kumar recounted.

Despite the nurses' calls for assistance, it was too late, and Prashant succumbed to what appeared to be cardiac arrest.

He leaves behind a wife and three children, aged three, ten, and fourteen. The family enjoyed traveling together, and Prashant was known as a playful father.

'He was a wonderful father and husband. Anyone who met him would say, ‘We don’t know anyone better than him,’” Kumar shared.

The family and friends are demanding answers regarding how someone with such severe chest pain could be overlooked in this manner.

A video circulating on social media features Prashant's wife recounting the distressing experience.

In the video, she claims that his blood pressure soared to 210 while he was in the waiting room, yet he was only given Tylenol despite his 'unbearable' pain.

'They said chest pain is not considered an acute issue, and they did not suspect a cardiac arrest,' his wife stated.

Family friend Varinder Bhullar, who utilized Prashant's accounting services, expressed his devastation over the incident, calling it a significant loss for the community.

'We expect better from the hospital and healthcare system,' Bhullar remarked.

Covenant Health, which operates Grey Nuns Hospital, stated in an email that they cannot comment on specific patient care due to privacy regulations but confirmed that the case is under review by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

'We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the patient. The safety and care of our patients and staff are our utmost priority,' the statement read.

As the family seeks to cherish the memories of Prashant, they are haunted by the circumstances of his painful death in a hospital without ever receiving a doctor's attention.

'They took my baby for nothing. For nothing,' Kumar lamented.
