Hanoi, July 11: Reports indicate that at least 15 individuals, including Indian tourists, are presumed dead following the capsizing of a speedboat near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam on Saturday.


As per the Vietnamese news outlet VN Express International, the vessel was en route from Hon May Rut to An Thoi Port when it overturned approximately 400 meters from Hon May Rut Ngoai, resulting in all 36 passengers being thrown into the water.


Initial reports from authorities in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone revealed that nearby tourist boats were the first responders, followed by border guards, the navy, the coast guard, and other rescue teams who joined the operation.


In response to the tragedy, the Indian Embassy in Hanoi announced the establishment of emergency control rooms as search and rescue efforts continued.


The embassy stated on social media, "In a tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam."


While 15 individuals are feared dead, Indian officials have yet to confirm these fatalities officially.


The embassy has set up control rooms at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy of India in Hanoi to assist affected families and provide information.
