Fatal Bus Crash in Java
Jakarta: A devastating bus accident occurred on Indonesia's Java island, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 individuals shortly after midnight on Monday, according to officials.
The bus, which was transporting 34 passengers, lost control on a toll road, collided with a concrete barrier, and subsequently overturned, as reported by Budiono, the head of the search and rescue agency.
The vehicle was en route from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, a historic royal city, when it flipped over while navigating a curved exit ramp at the Krapyak tollway in Semarang, Central Java.
Budiono noted, "The violent impact caused several passengers to be thrown and trapped against the bus's structure."
Emergency responders arrived approximately 40 minutes post-accident, recovering six deceased passengers at the scene. An additional ten succumbed to their injuries en route to hospitals or during treatment.
Currently, 18 individuals are receiving medical attention at two local hospitals, with five in critical condition and 13 sustaining serious injuries.
