Tragic Accident at LaGuardia Airport Claims Lives of Two Crew Members
Fatal Incident at LaGuardia Airport
A tragic accident occurred at LaGuardia Airport late last night, resulting in the deaths of two crew members and injuries to many others. A passenger aircraft collided with an airport vehicle while on the runway. Initial reports from Canada have identified one of the deceased as Antoine Forest, a pilot hailing from Coteau-du-Lac. He was one of the two crew members, including the pilot and co-pilot, who tragically lost their lives in this incident. The name was first reported by TVA Nouvelles, a French-language news outlet in Canada, although authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of the victims.
According to the Toronto Star, Forest, aged 30, had been working as a first officer with Jazz Aviation since December 2022, as noted on his LinkedIn profile. The incident involved a Jazz Aviation flight operating for Air Canada, which was carrying 72 passengers along with four crew members. Officials stated that the aircraft collided with a Port Authority rescue and firefighting vehicle around 11:40 PM. The emergency vehicle was responding to a report of an unusual smell on a United Airlines flight when it was struck by the incoming aircraft, as per a spokesperson from the Port Authority.
In total, 41 individuals sustained injuries in the collision and were transported to local hospitals. Officials confirmed that 32 of those injured have been released, while several remain in critical condition. Following the accident, LaGuardia Airport was promptly closed as emergency responders arrived and investigators began their work at the scene. Authorities have indicated that the airport will remain shut down until at least 2 PM today, although this timeline may be extended based on the investigation's progress.
This is a developing story.
