Severe Weather Alert in West Virginia

The National Weather Service (NWS) has declared a tornado warning for certain areas in Monongalia County, located in northern West Virginia, urging residents to seek immediate shelter. This alert is valid until 4:30 PM EDT. As reported by the NWS office in Pittsburgh, a severe thunderstorm capable of generating a tornado was detected near Cassville, approximately five miles west of Westover, at 4:06 PM EDT. The storm is advancing eastward at a speed of about 35 mph. The warning was prompted by radar indications of rotation within the storm system.

The NWS cautioned that flying debris could pose significant risks to individuals outside. There is a potential for damage to mobile homes, roofs, windows, and vehicles, with tree damage also likely. The areas affected by this warning include Morgantown, Brookhaven, Booth, Georgetown, and Crown. Residents are advised to relocate to an interior room on the lowest floor of a robust structure and to avoid windows. Those outdoors, in vehicles, or in mobile homes should find the nearest secure shelter to protect themselves from debris.
