Incident Overview
Officers responded to a call at Val Verde Regional Medical Center on Thursday afternoon regarding a woman with multiple stab wounds. Investigators later discovered that the incident originated from a confrontation outside a home on East 10th Street.
A probable cause affidavit reveals that the altercation was recorded on video. The footage reportedly shows Peña arriving at Faz's residence in a black pickup truck. Shortly thereafter, the Diaz sisters arrived in a black Chrysler, exited their vehicle, and confronted Peña.
According to police, the video indicates that Amaya Diaz approached Peña while allegedly wielding a knife. During the encounter, Amaya is said to have stabbed Peña in the back, leaving visible blood on her shirt. Following this, Kitty Diaz joined the attack, with Kyandra Faz also participating.
The altercation was eventually broken up, and the suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Police later located the women at a residence where Kitty Diaz's child was present. Investigators noted that the sisters had changed their clothing and showered prior to the officers' arrival. During a search, clothing believed to have been worn by Kitty Diaz during the incident was discovered in a washing machine.
Authorities have yet to determine a motive for this deadly confrontation. The affidavit states that Faz claimed Peña had come to her home "looking to start a fight," coinciding with the arrival of the Diaz sisters.
