Pakistan's Strong Reaction to Border Incident

Islamabad: On Saturday, Pakistan summoned the Indian Charge d'Affaires to express its strong disapproval regarding the recent shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two individuals, whom Pakistan claims were civilians.

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India reportedly shot two suspected Pakistani intruders on Friday along the international border in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, with the incident occurring around noon.

Punjab shares a 553-kilometer border with Pakistan, making it a significant area of tension.

According to Atul Soni, the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Tarn Taran, three individuals were approaching the Indian side, but one retreated back to Pakistan. The remaining two ignored warnings from BSF personnel and continued towards India.

A BSF sentry indicated that the two men were provoking the troops, expressing their intent to cross into Indian territory, which led to the decision to open fire, resulting in their deaths. Senior BSF officials later visited the scene.

The identities of the deceased are currently being verified.

Pakistani authorities, however, assert that the two individuals were merely civilians who accidentally crossed the border and have rejected claims that they were intruders.

In a statement, the Pakistan Foreign Office announced that the Indian Charge d'Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formally protest the killings.

The statement condemned the use of lethal force against unarmed civilians as unjustified and disproportionate, leading to the tragic loss of life.

It further emphasized that this incident represents a serious violation of fundamental human rights, particularly the right to life, and raises significant concerns regarding the protection of civilians under international law.

Pakistan has called for an immediate, transparent, and credible investigation by India into the incident, urging appropriate disciplinary and legal actions against those responsible, along with formal communication of the findings to the Pakistani government.
