Tamim Iqbal Elected as BCB President

Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, has been appointed as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This election solidifies his leadership role after previously heading the board's ad-hoc committee. According to BCB official Rabeed Imam, Tamim was elected unopposed during a board meeting that followed the BCB elections held on Sunday, where he garnered the highest votes in the Club Category.

Election Results Overview

In the Club Category, Tamim received 73 votes at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, surpassing competitors Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khosru, who each obtained 72 votes. A total of 16 candidates vied for 12 available seats in this category. Notably, candidates Amjad Hossain, Major Imroz, Faizur Rahman, and Syed Borhanul Hossain Pappu were not elected, with Major Imroz receiving the least votes at 20 and Amjad securing 32.

District Category Results

In the District Category, seven candidates were elected unopposed prior to the polling day, leaving only two seats from Khulna and one from Barishal to be decided by votes. Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, and Mizanur Rahman emerged victorious in this category.

Formation of the New Board

Additionally, former cricketer Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir was elected unopposed as the sole director representing organizations and universities under Category-3. In total, 23 directors were elected during the polls, with the National Sports Council set to appoint the remaining two positions. The newly formed 25-member board convened shortly after the election results were announced and officially elected Tamim as president. Recognized as a strong candidate for this role, Tamim now takes on permanent leadership of the BCB after previously serving in an interim capacity.
