Taliban's Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor Takes Charge at Afghanistan's Embassy in New Delhi
Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor's Appointment
New Delhi, Jan 10: Senior member of the Taliban, Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, has officially arrived in New Delhi to assume the role of Charge d'Affaires at the Afghan Embassy, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.
Previously, Noor held the position of Director General of the First Political Department within Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In recent months, the relationship between India and Afghanistan has strengthened, particularly following the visit of Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who spent a week in India last October.
During his visit, Muttaqi made a strong statement regarding the Embassy's control, emphasizing the presence of the Islamic Emirate's flag both in front of him and behind, asserting, "This is our flag. We fought jihad under this. This is 100 percent our embassy. Everyone working here is with us," while the embassy still displays the former flag of Ashraf Ghani's regime.
Notably, Mufti Noor was part of the delegation that accompanied FM Muttaqi to New Delhi.
While India has yet to formally recognize the Taliban government, it has become a significant donor of aid, continuing to provide humanitarian assistance and medical supplies.
Additionally, the Afghan consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad are now operated by diplomats appointed by the Taliban.
Previously, Muhammad Ibrahim Khil, who was appointed under the former President Ashraf Ghani, served as the Charge d'Affaires at the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi.
Moreover, there have been numerous high-level delegations from Afghanistan visiting India, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations, trade, energy projects, and maximizing the potential of the India-developed Chabahar Port in Iran, while also seeking to attract further investments.
