Suspicious Sighting Reported Before Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance
Witness Account Raises Concerns
A resident of Catalina Foothills, who lives near Nancy Guthrie, reported seeing a suspicious young man in the vicinity of the 84-year-old’s residence weeks prior to her disappearance. Aldine Meister described the individual as wearing a hat that obscured his face, noting he did not appear to be on a casual stroll. She mentioned that she had never seen him before or since that day. Meister recounted her observations to a news outlet after communicating with investigators.
She spotted the man at an intersection leading directly to Nancy’s home and informed her husband about the sighting at the time, but did not alert the police as nothing else seemed amiss. Following Nancy's disappearance on February 1, she decided to report the incident to the authorities, although she lacked any video or photographic evidence to corroborate her account.
Authorities have urged neighbors to review their home security footage from January 1 to February 2, with particular emphasis on January 11. Meister is uncertain of the exact date she observed the man but believes it was after January 8, when she had guests. Having lived in the area for three decades, she noted that the neighborhood is typically quiet with minimal suspicious activity. Now, she intends to enhance her home security system with additional cameras, as her existing ones did not capture any useful footage on the night Nancy went missing, according to reports.
Details on the Masked Intruder
What Investigators Revealed About The Masked Intruder
On February 10, the FBI released images of a masked individual seen tampering with Nancy’s doorbell camera. This person was observed carrying a backpack and wearing a gun holster. Law enforcement officials indicated that one of the images was taken on a different night, while another depicted a masked figure at the door without the backpack or holster.
On February 21, the Pima County Sheriff's Department suggested that the masked individual might not have been alone. Investigators are diligently reviewing footage from the scene and surrounding residences but have yet to identify any suspects or persons of interest. Nancy’s three children, including Savannah Guthrie, are offering a $1 million reward for any information that could lead to their mother’s whereabouts. Over three weeks after her disappearance, authorities confirm that the search is still ongoing. A Nest device recorded the intruder, and detectives are exploring every possible angle to reconstruct the events of that night. The company behind the device has not made any public statements regarding the investigation.
