Sundernagar, recognized as the educational and industrial center of Mandi district, is on the verge of becoming a hub for artificial intelligence training with the launch of an AI Data Lab at ITI Sundernagar, part of the esteemed India AI Mission.


This lab aims to offer cutting-edge training in machine learning, data annotation, and AI technologies, thereby creating new job prospects for the local youth. The initiative is being executed in accordance with the directives from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.


In addition to Sundernagar, AI Data Labs will also be established at ITI Raila, ITI Shahpur, and ITI Solan. Construction has commenced at ITI Raila, while preparations are ongoing at the other institutes.


Funding Breakdown for AI Labs

Central Budget of ₹68.98 Lakh for Each AI Lab


Each AI Data Lab will occupy a space of 70 square meters and will be equipped with modern digital facilities. The state government is set to invest ₹20 lakh for the construction of the lab buildings, along with providing essential utilities like electricity, water, and furniture.


The central government will contribute ₹25.48 lakh towards IT infrastructure. Additionally, software support will incur a cost of ₹50,000 annually for the first three years. Furthermore, ₹14 lakh will be allocated each year for trainers and lab personnel.


In total, the Centre has approved a budget of ₹68.98 lakh for each lab over a span of three years.


Courses to Enhance AI Skills

Machine Learning and Data Annotation Courses for Youth


The initial phase will introduce a 120-hour Data Annotator course aimed at training students in data labeling and classification, which are essential for developing high-quality AI systems.


Students who have completed Class 10 will be eligible for enrollment. A Data Curator Assistant course will also be introduced to further enhance AI skill development.


The Directorate of Technical Education has already issued directives for the construction of lab buildings to ensure that AI-based courses commence promptly.


Empowering Local Youth with Digital Skills

A New Digital Opportunity for Himachal Youth


This initiative is anticipated to foster a robust AI skill ecosystem in Himachal Pradesh, allowing local youth to pursue emerging digital job opportunities without the need to relocate to metropolitan areas.
