Shakira Shines at FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremony in Mexico City
Shakira Captivates the Audience
At the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony, Colombian icon Shakira stole the spotlight with her performance of 'Dai Dai.' The event took place at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, where she mesmerized the audience. This song is featured in the official FIFA music album for this year's tournament. Shakira was joined on stage by Burna Boy, marking the finale of the ceremony. Their performance was celebrated with a spectacular fireworks display, concluding the show on a high note. The opening ceremonies of the World Cup are always significant, and this year is no exception. Given that the tournament spans three nations, there will be three distinct opening ceremonies, with Mexico hosting the first due to the opening match being held there. The USA and Canada will follow with their own ceremonies later.
An Energetic Crowd
The ceremony commenced shortly after 11 AM local time, and despite being a morning event, the crowd's enthusiasm was palpable. As each artist took the stage, the audience was on their feet, dancing along. J Balvin ignited the festivities with his popular track 'Que Calor' before Shakira took over. The lineup featured stellar performances from artists such as Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Tyla, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere.
Pre-Ceremony Chaos in Mexico City
With Mexico participating in the opening match, excitement levels soared. However, not all fans could secure tickets to the stadium, leading to the establishment of special fan zones throughout the city. Unfortunately, these zones attracted large crowds, resulting in some disorder. To manage the situation, police were compelled to disperse the crowds, which incited frustration among some fans, leading to incidents of water bottles being thrown at officers.
