Tornado Emergency Issued in Oklahoma


On Thursday evening, a powerful and highly dangerous tornado was detected near Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma, leading to a tornado emergency for Enid and urgent alerts for central Garfield County. The National Weather Service in Norman reported that the tornado was spotted near the base at 8:13 PM CDT, moving eastward at approximately 25 mph. Officials characterized the situation as 'particularly dangerous,' indicating a life-threatening storm capable of causing extensive damage.



Communities at risk include Enid, Waukomis, Covington, Breckenridge, Fairmont, and North Enid. Emergency management officials confirmed the tornado was on the ground, cautioning that flying debris poses a lethal threat to anyone outdoors. Mobile homes are particularly vulnerable, and significant destruction to residences, businesses, and vehicles is anticipated, with the potential for total devastation.


Residents in the impacted regions are strongly advised to seek immediate shelter in a storm shelter, a secure room, or an interior area on the lowest floor of a robust building, while avoiding windows.
